CG5585 Process

Form CG5585 is the application for a certificate of financial responsibility ("COFR") and a CG5585 is completed for each operator. When the United States Coast Guard ("USCG") processes the CG5585 application for a vessel, they issue a COFR and assign a Control Number. Vessels sharing the same operator will thus share the same Control Number.

SIGCo will also process the CG5585 application to the USCG on behalf of its clients, at no charge. Under OPA90, each operator is required to obtain a COFR from the USCG, using this CG5585 application. The resulting COFR accompanies the COFR guaranty, issued by SIGCo. Both documents are required for each vessel trading to the USA (See Applications section).

SIGCo personnel maintain close relations with the USCG and are able to liaize with them swiftly and efficiently to resolve problems which may arise in meeting all COFR obligations of shipowners under OPA 90 and CERCLA.

CG5585 Application Process

1. Complete and send the form "CG5585 application detail" found here.
    
2. SIGCo will complete the application (porvided that it has processed a COFR guaranty for that operator) and send a draft copy back for review.
    
3. Confirm details in the draft application.
    
4. SIGCo sends the application to the USCG for issuance of the certificate.
